Build a portable AI assistant powered by CuteAssistant GPT. Voice input via built-in mic, responses on the AMOLED display.
Overview
Create a portable AI voice assistant using the Kode Dot's built-in microphone, speaker, and WiFi connectivity. The CuteAssistant GPT app handles speech-to-text and GPT inference via cloud API, displaying cute animated responses on the AMOLED screen.
What you'll build
- Wake word detection ("Hey Kode")
- Voice-to-text transcription
- GPT-powered responses
- Text-to-speech playback
- Animated character on screen
How It Works
Architecture
Mic → Wake word → Record audio → WiFi → Cloud STT → GPT → TTS → Speaker
The device listens for the wake word locally using a tiny neural network. Once triggered, it records 5 seconds of audio, sends it to a cloud Speech-to-Text API, forwards the transcript to GPT, and plays back the synthesized response.
Tips
- Use short prompts for faster responses
- The built-in speaker works best in quiet environments
- WiFi latency is typically 200-500ms per round-trip
